Duty of an institution to produce quality graduates

KUCHING: Around 620 students from University Technology Mara (UiTM) Sarawak attended a pre-graduation ceremony held here at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

The event was launched by the university’s Rector, Professor Datuk Dr Jamil Haji Hamali.

In his speech, Jamil said, “The quality of a graduate is reflected through their contribution to the country,” he said.

He also mentioned that UiTM Sarawak strived to produce such graduates here.

“Malaysia is set in achieving a status of becoming a high-income nation with an inclusive and innovative status,” he said.

Jamil also explained that this is in-line with the Malaysian Education Development Plan 2015–2025.

“UiTM Sarawak aims to produce graduates that are holistic, balanced, and knowledgeable in all things dealing with entrepreneurship.

“The world today is moving forward towards Industry 4.0, thus creating a momentum that will enhance the progress and development of the nation,” he added.

He also said, in this pursuit, youths in Sarawak should be making efforts to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills needed for this digital era.

Meanwhile, state federal secretary Datuk Mansor Man said, “The progress for tomorrow needs contributions from the public, especially the future generation, in the development of the nation.”

“Graduates are a priority asset and an intellectual product of a country in ensuring the development and progress of a civilisation.

“Therefore, it is the duty of an education institution to provide and cultivate graduates for the future,” he said.

The event also saw the presentation of 11 Best Student Awards (degree), 16 Best Student Awards (diploma), one Student Sports Award and two Best Student Overall (diploma and degree).
