KUCHING: Sarawak education director Datuk Dr Azhar Ahmad has highlighted the significance of well-organised school facilities, efficient management and quality leadership as factors contributing to students’ academic success.

During the announcement of the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2022 results at SMK Green Road here on Thursday (June 8), he stated that while the provision of facilities played a crucial role in achieving good results, the education department “has implemented strategies to address the issue of inadequate facilities in both urban and rural schools.”

Azhar expressed concern over the persistent challenge of bridging the education quality gap between urban and rural schools in Sarawak.

He stressed the department’s commitment to improving the overall standard of education in both settings.

“Despite not meeting the desired target, the quality of results for 2022 demonstrated improvement compared to the previous year.

“The state’s average grade (GPN) improved from 5.17 points in 2021 to 5.07 points in 2022, indicating better performance by the candidates,” he said.
