SIBU: Education will continue to be the main priority in the Bukit Assek constituency, affirms assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek.

Chieng said while education falls under federal jurisdiction, there are instances where the Malaysian Ministry of Education (MOE) may not approve applications for school maintenance.

“As the assemblyman for N.51 Bukit Assek, I will help the schools on basic maintenance because all the students are Sarawakian. We cannot ignore the state of severe damage in our schools.

“I will help and allocate rural transformation project (RTP) funds for the basic maintenance of schools,” he said at the 2023 SK Nanga Salim Banquet on Sunday (Dec 10).

Chieng assured that he would continue to support the education community, recognising that the development of education serves as the foundation for a brighter future.

“Therefore, I will work together with the school and the Sibu District Education Office to ensure that every effort towards improving education in the Bukit Assek area can be implemented effectively.”

Chieng also underscored the pivotal role of teachers as the backbone of community development, highlighting that teachers not only impart academic knowledge but also instill good morals and values in each student.

“Teachers’ contribution to society is far greater than can be calculated. Teachers shape the future generation, guide them through challenges, and prepare them to face the outside world.

“How important is the role of teachers in shaping the minds of our children. Teachers are inspiration, lights in the dark; teachers are also individuals who give hope and dreams to every student.”

SK Nanga Salim headmistress Siti Bohari was also present at the event.
