PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is always monitoring the demand of eggs in the market and will do its best to ensure that the supply in the market is stabilised as usual.

In its press statement here yesterday, the ministry said the government, through the Ministers’ Conference held on February 17, had unanimously agreed to continue with the chicken eggs subsidy until June 2023 which will cost RM1.28 billion.

The ministry said the move was taken to ensure that the egg supply remains stabilised whilst a study on the mechanism and the subsidy distribution policy on a wider scale can be finalised as soon as possible.

It also announced that the initiative to import chicken eggs was a temporary measure to ensure that the supply in the country is alleviated.

It added that the needs to import eggs would be studied again after the supply was stabilised.

“The Ministry is committed to working with the suppliers to ensure that the chicken and egg industry is secured to avoid burdening the people,” added the statement.
