KUCHING: A septuagenarian sustained burns on his limbs and face after his double-storey house at Lorong Sungai Maong Ulu 3 here was engulfed in flames last night.
The 73-year-old victim was reportedly trapped in the house after the fire broke out around 11.50 pm.
The house was occupied by the victim and his wife. The latter managed to get out to safety by herself.
Firemen from Batu Lintang and Tabuan Jaya stations were promptly despatched to the scene. They quickly rescued the trapped victim and rushed him to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatment.
The extent of his injuries is not known.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the house could of be saved.
The flames were brought under control around 12.40 am and the entire operation ended around 5.10 am.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
