KUCHING: A Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) leader has likened the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government’s proposed amendment to Article 1(2) of the Federal Constitution to one of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales.

In a press conference at the SUPP headquarters here, Central Youth secretary-general Milton Foo said: “The Emperor’s New Clothes is a tale written by (Danish author) Hans Christian Andersen, about two weavers who promised an emperor a new suit of clothes that they say is invisible to those who are unfit for their positions, stupid, or incompetent while in reality, they make no clothes at all, making everyone believes the clothes are invisible to them.

“When the emperor parades before his subjects in his new ‘clothes’, no one dares to say that they do not see any suit of clothes on him for fear that they will be seen as stupid. Finally a child cries out, ‘But he isn’t wearing anything at all!’ This is just like the Sarawak PH.”
Sarawak PH, he said, also expects Sarawakians to accept the proposed amendment to the Bill.

He said it was time for more Sarawakians to stand up and point out that there was no “new dress” at all with regard to the proposed amendment.

He urged Sarawak PH to “stop deceiving Sarawakians as we are not stupid”.
