Employee behind bars for stealing cash

KUCHING: A female employee was sentenced to three months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court today for stealing cash amounting to RM668 which belongs to a beauty and spa centre.

The accused Margaret, 24, pleaded guilty to three charges which were read before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

According to the three charges, she was charged under Section 381 of the Penal Code for stealing cash totalling RM668 and if convicted, she can be sentenced to up to seven years in prison and a fine.

She committed the offence on Nov 17, 2022 and March 14 this year at the beauty and spa centre.

The court sentenced her to three months in prison for the first charge and one month in prison for the second and third charges.

Based on the facts of the case, the complainant who is the owner of the beauty and spa centre discovered that cash amounting to RM499 had been lost and stolen by someone on Nov 12, 2022.

A while later, the complainant once again realised that cash amounting to RM99 was missing and RM70 was stolen.

The complainant made a police report for further action to be taken and investigations found that the accused had committed the offence and stolen the cash.

Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted the case while the accused was unrepresented by a legal counsel.
