SELANGAU: Local residents here are advised to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the government to prevent the spread of Covid-19 virus.

Assistant Minister of Native Laws and Customs Datuk John Sikie Tayai said Kakus area, comprising Tatau and Selangau districts were still in the green zone. Hence it was everyone’s responsibility to maintain it so that the districts would continue to be free from the virus.

“Obey instructions given by the authorities wherever you are, follow the SOP set by the Ministry of Health, such as social distancing, wearing of face masks and wash your hands frequently,” he advised.

He said this at the launch of a Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) Women’s Bureau of Rumah Bigat Tanggai, Sungai Arip, Selangau over the weekend.

“Covid -19 is a dangerous and feared virus but it can be curbed and avoided if we follow the instructions and SOPs that have been set,” he said, adding that the government had declared the use of face masks as mandatory beginning August 1.

Commenting on the Agriculture Facilitation Fund in DUN Kakus, he informed that the area had received durian seedlings such as Musang King, Johor Mas and Black Thorn along with fertilisers.

He assured that these would be distributed to the local farmers soon.

He said, the selection of durian varieties was due to the high price and demand in the market.

“Although the number of seedlings given is not many, if taken care of properly, will generate a lucrative income,” he said.
