MIRI: The state government will continue with its holistic approach to bring more development to interior areas, with the focus on digital technology.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg assured that the state government, led by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), is one with foresight and aims to ensure that those in rural areas are not left behind technologically.

“We will develop digital networking within rural areas because we have long-term plans to provide facilities for the benefit of the people.”

He added that the government not only wanted rural areas to have Internet access but also high-speed connectivity.

Abang Johari said this when launching wireless Internet connectivity at SMK Temengong Datuk Lawai Jau in Long San yesterday.

SMK Temengong Datuk Lawai Jau and the Long San area will have Internet broadband service access with speeds of 10Mpbs and 30Mpbs.

The Chief Minister pointed out that this would enhance and help SMK Temengong Lawai Jau students in their learning process, opening doorways to more knowledge, information and educational resources.

He assured that all development projects that had been planned would be implemented in stages, with some taking longer to complete.

“Please bear with me, because this will take time…I don’t have Aladdin’s magic lamp (to complete the projects in one night),” he quipped.

He also revealed that next year, Long San will have two more telecommunication towers.
