KUCHING: Members of the public are invited to participate in the BAM Level 1 Badminton Coaching Course to be held at Sibu Indoor Stadium from May 20 to 24.

The five-day course is organised by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) under its Coach Education Panel (CEP) headed by Dr Ong Kong Swee, who is also Director of Sarawak State Sports Council (MSN Sarawak).

The course is the first of its kind to be held in Sibu in collaboration with Sarawak Sports

Corporation (SSC) and MSN Sarawak and is open to those aged 18 and above.

The entry fee for the course is RM315 inclusive of examination fees and Certificate of Participation.

Those interested are invited to contact Yong King Sung of Sibu Division Badminton Association (Sibu BA) who can be contacted at 0128093155.

The closing date is May 5 and entries are on first-come-first-serve basis.

Meanwhile, a total of 60 participants took part in the course which was recently held at Stadium Badminton Kuala Lumpur and Avenger Sports Arena both in Cheras.

The group was so far the largest who attended the BAM coaching course this year.

The course also featured coaches those from Indonesia and one from Tamil Nadu while among the local coaches who took part in the course were Muhtasham Katan from Johor, Mohd Zambri Hj Bahari from Perak, Siow Wei Keong from Negeri Sembilan, Koh Teck Seng from Pahang and Dr Tengku Fadilah Bt Tengku Kamalden from Sport Science Components of Kuala Lumpur.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Ong, BAM’s general manager Lawrence Chew and the association’s council member, Steve Egbert Jay.

During the function, Ong presented the certificates of appreciation and certificates of participation to all the instructors and participants.

He commended the participants for taking part in the course which was held to create more qualified badminton coaches and elevate the standard of the game at grass root level.
