SIBU: Families stand as the bedrock of identity and emotional support, playing an increasingly crucial role in today’s dynamic society.

“With the rise of smartphones, social media, and artificial intelligence, our communication methods and lifestyles have been profoundly transformed.

“In the midst of this technological flood, maintaining family stability and harmony hinges on our commitment to core family values. Family extends beyond a physical space — it is a crucible for value transmission and emotional connection,” said Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng at the opening ceremony of the Family Harmony Summit 2024 themed ‘Family Transformation, Embracing Change,’ at a hotel here on Saturday.

The two-day event, organised by Morphos Family Resources Club (MFRC), drew 350 attendees from both domestic and international participants.

Chieng stressed the collaborative nature required for family transformation, noting the essential roles of mutual support among spouses and open communication between parents and children.

“When challenges arise, it’s crucial for family members to support one another and advance together. A family’s journey is collective, not solitary. We must find hope in adversity and spot opportunities amidst change.

“Aligning with the summit’s theme, we should aspire to be like diamonds among rocks, radiating brilliance through self-awareness and continual refinement. Only by realising individual potential can a family truly transform,” he added.

He further noted that adapting to globalisation and informatisation is vital in today’s world where change is constant.

“Families must embrace the future with an open mind and approach the unpredictable with optimism. This is key to navigating forward and ensuring a prosperous future,” he said.

MFRC chairman Hii Kim Siong, vice chairman Ho Ming Nga, and organising chairman Kelvin Hii Yong Yaw were also present.
