KUCHING: A total of RM33,000 were contributed to the rabies victims family in Kampong Paon to ensure that their children education and wellbeing will be taken care of.

Given the honour to hand over the contributions was Chief Minister’s wife and Association of Ministers’ and Assistant Ministers’ Wives (Sabati) chief Datin Amar Dato Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.

According to Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) President Datu Ik Pahon Joyik who received the aid on behalf of the victim’s family, the fund received will be used for the education purpose of the four remaining children.

“Apart from repairing the house, the fund will also be used to ensure that all the four remaining children can continue their education,” said Ik when speaking to reporters after the cheque presentation ceremony held at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Petra Jaya, yesterday.

He also noted that DBNA also plans to work together with Kedup Assemblyman Martin Ben and Serian education officer to ensure that the children will get their education.

“With these contributions from Sabati, Petra Jaya Welfare Association (PKPJ) and concerned individuals, it will be something that would benefit the family, and I will discuss with the head of the village to ensure that this money will be used properly and channeled to the right purposes which are to repair the house and also the children’s education,” he said.

Ik also pointed that the State government will also come in to support the family.

“But, from this fund, we are looking at the basic things such as the water and electricity, so that the children can study at night,” he said, adding they want to make sure that at least the children will have the basic needs to grow up and study.
