PADAWAN: A female pillion rider lost her life, and her male companion sustained injuries after a pickup truck rear-ended their motorcycle on the Batu Kawa Bridge last night (Oct 17).

Padawan District police chief Superintendent Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the incident was reported around 12.43am.

He said it was found that the victims were making their way to Kampung Sejijak Matang during the incident.

“While moving straight in the left lane on the Batu Kawa Bridge, the motorcycle ridden by the victims was hit from behind by a pickup truck with an unidentified registration number, causing them to be thrown onto the road.

“After that, the driver of the pickup truck fled from the scene with his vehicle,” he said in a statement today (Oct 18).

Abang Zainal reported that the 23-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

He added that the male companion, 22, sustained injuries to his face and hands and was transported to SGH for medical care.
