Fatal shooting under probe

BETONG: Police are investigating the death of a man who was shot while hunting near Rumah Ming Nyelutong here on Friday.

Its district police chief DSP Mohd Fahdil Antum Abdullah when contacted in confirming the case said a 51-year-old complainant, who also happens to be the suspect had accidentally fired his shotgun towards the victim after he mistook him for a wild boar in rubber estate near the longhouse.

According to Fahdil, the suspect claimed to have seen a wild boar on a slope about 15 metres from where he was standing and fired his shotgun before he heard someone groaning in pain.

“The suspect then ran towards the victim identified as Entri Thomas Tama and found him lying in a pool of blood. However, Entri died on the spot.

The suspect lodged a police report at the Betong police station at 6.53pm.

The Entri’s remains were later taken to Betong Hospital’s mortuary for further action.

The case is still under police investigation.
