KUCHING: Rape victims, especially those raped by their own family members, should not hesitate to report the crime to the relevant authority.

“Victims are protected. Many of them keep the crime to themselves because they fear the repercussions that may come from the perpetrators.
“Because of this, their trauma, which could have been shared with others, cannot be shared.

“Just like what happened recently in Serian. The victim is underage and her perpetrators are her family members.

“I hope the police will make the most righteous decision to punish the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” said by the Minster of Welfare, Community Well being, Women, Family and Childhood Development, Datuk Fatimah Abdullah in a text message after she heard about the case.

She also disclosed that the Welfare Department had conducted an investigation and discussed where to place the victim to protect her.
