KUCHING: Political analyst Datuk Peter Minos yesterday chided some federal ministers for their “loose mouths which uttered insensitive words that hurt and frustrated Sarawakians”.

He named Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik and Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching among them.

“Their verbal indiscretions indicate quite clearly that our federal ministers and by implication, our Malayan friends, do not know about Sarawak.

“They seem to be ignorant about what is sensitive in Sarawak. Imagine if these insensitive Malayans were to come in and take over the state government,” said Minos.

“No wonder that racial and religious problems almost endlessly crop up in  Peninsular Malaysia.”

Minos added: “Some people from the Peninsular are simply not careful of what they say as if they forget that Malaysia is a multi-religious, multi-cultural and multi-racial nation.

“The worst loose canons are the so-called religious and racial extremists and zealots.

“They are both the creators and purveyors of ill-feelings and ill-will in the Peninsular.

“If the lots are to come or allowed to by design or by default into Sarawak, we can expect problems, if not troubles, of some kind.

“They will mix religion with politics and this can be explosive and dangerous,” Minos said, adding history had been littered by human sufferings and deaths all over the world, all in the name of racial and religious causes.

Minos, who is also the chairman of Kota Samarahan Council, stressed that  such situation must not and should not happen to the beautiful land of Sarawak which was relatively free of racial and religious extremism and bigotry.

He said Sarawakians wanted to live in peace and harmony and did not wish anyone from the Peninsular to spoil the show and the good things in the state.

“Thus the talks and threats from the federal politicians that they intend to capture Sarawak in 2021 is a real cause of alarm.

“Definitely, a real worry. If the Malayans come in to control and dominate, given their ignorance of Sarawak and its people, woes will surely come,” he said.

“Sarawakians’ greatest fear is that the Malayan rulers, in their naivety, will make a big mess in Sarawak and endanger the harmonious environment that we already have.”
