KUCHING: Female teachers must continue to be given encouragement and strong support, says Kullin Djayang.

The Sarawak Teachers Union (STU) president urged female teachers to be resilient in facing challenges in today’s teaching profession.

“Equality between men and women should not be debated anymore. Today, there are so many women leaders around the world who are reliable and highly respected,” he said.

“At the same time, as a female teacher, they must be mentally and emotionally strong when dealing with students.”

Kullin said this when launching a two-day seminar organised by STU’s Women Bureau in conjunction with International Women’s Day here recently.

As a teacher working in the 21st century, they also needed to be prepared and ready to adapt to changes, he added.

The seminar was attended by representatives from STU exco committee members throughout Sarawak.

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Associate Professor Dr Ramalinggam Ramanickam and motivational speaker and psychological expert Dr Christine Augustine were among the speakers.
