MUKAH: Twelve students who will further their studies locally and abroad received education incentive from the government here yesterday.

The financial aid was from the minor rural project (MRP) fund specifically allocated by Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi to assist students, especially those from the underprivileged families.

The recipients who are in Balingian constituency, included two students accepted to study in Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Kali, Yogyakarta in Indonesia.

Abdul Yakub presented the aid to the recipients at a simple ceremony which was also attended by Mukah District Officer Shafrie Saili at N58 Balingian Community Service Centre here.

He congratulated the students for being accepted to further their studies at local and foreign institutions of higher learning.

Abdul Yakub said the aid was meant to lessen the burden of students and their parents. According to him, the record showed that the number of students entering institutions of higher learning had increased from year to year.

“Every month between 15 and 20 students receive this education aid,” the former Dalat and Mukah District Council (MDDM) walikota said.
He hoped that the students would spend the aid wisely. Abdul Yakub said these students are future leaders of the state or country and it is appropriate that the government tries its best to help them.
