Fined RM1,000 for damaging foster mother’s property

KUCHING: A local woman was fined RM1,000 in default of three weeks’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here today for damaging her foster mother’s property, resulting in a loss of RM200 last Monday.

Arfifa, 24, pleaded guilty to the charge read before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

According to the charge, she was accused of committing mischief by damaging property, namely a fan, a mobile phone, and an iron gate belonging to the 58-year-old woman, incurring a loss of RM200.

She was alleged to have committed the offence at their residence in Bandar Baru Samariang, around 8.30 pm last February 5.

Therefore, she was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of not less than one year and not more than five years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, during the incident, the accused suddenly went into a rage and proceeded to damage her foster mother’s property.

Concerned for her safety, the complainant then filed a police report for further action, leading to the accused’s arrest on the same day.

It is understood that the accused admitted to consuming prohibited substances before the incident, then became angry and dissatisfied with the victim for throwing a pillow given by her male friend towards her.

As a result, the accused verbally abused her foster mother and went into a rage because she refused to accept the victim’s reprimand.

The prosecution of the case was handled by prosecuting officer Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while the accused was not represented by a counsel.
