Fire erupts at Tabuan Dayak building under construction

KUCHING: The 12th floor of a building under construction in Tabuan Dayak caught fire this morning (Nov 21).

Authorities were quickly alerted of the incident around 10.30am when the building emitted thick black smoke which can be seen all the way from areas near Satok and Petra Jaya.

Firemen from Tabuan Jaya, Batu Lintang and Petra Jaya stations have been deployed to the scene to commence extinguishing works.

It was told that the fire occurred in the pump room on the 12th floor, and they had to go up the stairs to reach the affected floor while carrying eight hose reels and two nozzles.

Some paint materials and pallet wood, were found in the room.

As of 12pm, the smoke was no longer visible as extinguishing and overhaul works were carried out after the team managed to pump water up to the affected floor from a nearby fire hydrant.

No injuries or casualties were reported during the incident.

A team from the Civil Defence Force (APM) were also deployed to the scene to assist in the operation.

Apart from them, Kuching traffic policemen are also helping to control the traffic flow at the scene.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
