SIBU: Fire victims of a longhouse in Skrang received daily necessities and supplies from Muda Sibu, Cultural and Arts Association (Tajai) Sarawak and the City Harvest Church.

Rumah Peter was burned down on March 30, leaving 33 households homeless and displaced
The Head of the Volunteer and Community Service Bureau and MUDA Sibu Parliamentary chief Jonathan Yii said that all affected residents were previously staying in a temporary shelter near the longhouse.

“Two weeks ago, they established a temporary residence in the disaster area. They are currently raising funds to rebuild their homes.

“I would like to thank everyone for their strong cooperation, namely the City Harvest Church Sibu where they crowdfunded a large number of clothes and funds in a short period of time.

“A portion of the funds raised by the church was used to purchase 33 bags of 10kg rice and 66 boxes of mineral water. The remaining funds were handed over to the committee of the longhouse to assist in rebuilding their homes,” said Yii in a statement today.

He also thanked Tajai president Themotty Jagak, and one of the founders, Peter John Jaban, for coordinating and arranging transportation to deliver the items to the victims.

In addition, Yii stated that MUDA Sibu will focus on community service activities in the area especially those who are in need of assistance or aids.

“Although we do not have any region or federal representatives in Sarawak, but we have the enthusiasm and love for caring for society. We hope that all of our efforts can bring more care and blessings to the surrounding environment and work towards solving the problems faced by the public,” he said.

The public can donate clothes or daily items to those in need by calling MUDA Sibu’s service hotline at 011-3616 9266.
