KUCHING: The RM1.4 billion Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) 6.0 financial package will ensure that the people are given assistance during the movement control order (MCO).

Layar assemblyman Gerald Rentap Jabu said this showed the firm commitment of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government to ensure that the people were not burdened by the effects of the pandemic.

“The assistance is focused on those in the B40 group and those providing essential services,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on Friday unveiled the BKSS 6.0 worth RM1.4 billion to help Sarawakians during the two-week MCO which runs until June 11 to curb the spread of Covid-19.

In the meantime, Rentap urged everyone to continue following the Covid-19 MCO standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“It is important for all Sarawakians to follow the SOPs to stop the spread of the virus,” he said.

The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief also called on those who had not registered for the vaccination to do so.

Meanwhile, Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh   hoped that the various assistance provided under the BKSS 6.0 would ease the hardships of affected families, business entities and the frontliners who had worked tirelessly in the fight against Covid-19.

“I salute our chief minister and all the top leaders for putting the people as their priority,” he said.

He added the noble efforts by the Sarawak government showed that the GPS government was capable of governing the state in bad and good times.

“So we as Sarawakians must give full support to our leaders, the team, frontliners and all parties that are involved in combating this virus,” said Miro.
