MIRI: A man in his 60s was among five persons arrested by the police at a cockfighting arena near here.

The raid was carried out during an operation called “Ops Dadu” last Wednesday evening (Feb 6).

Among the items seized from the gambling pit.

In the 4.30pm raid, police also seized four roosters (two live and two dead), a weighing machine and a white board used by the gamblers to record their bets.

All the suspects and the seized items were taken to the central police station here for questioning, said Miri deputy police chief, Supt Sabri Zainol.

Sabri said the raid was carried out at an oil palm estate in Sungai Sebatok, Suai, Niah.

The case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance 1962, which provides for the maximum RM500 fine and imprisonment of up to three months.
