Five-month prison for drug offender

KUCHING: The Magistrate Court here sentenced a local man to five months in prison for drug abuse last year.

Mohamad Faizal Aron, 41, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.

If convicted, he could have been sentenced to a prison term of up to two years or a fine of up to RM5,000, and placed under police supervision for up to three years.

Magistrate Zubaidah also ordered Faizal to be placed under police supervision for two years following his imprisonment.

According to the case details, while detained at the Kuching Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (NCID), Faizal tested positive for drugs in a urine test conducted around 8.30 pm on February 7, 2022.

The sample, sent to the Pathology Department of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), confirmed Faizal tested positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine.

Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted the case, while Faizal was not represented by counsel.
