KUCHING: Five local men were arrested for fighting at an entertainment centre here last Saturday.

The altercation is said to have happened around 11pm.

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the suspects, aged between 28 and 60, were taken into custody on Monday.

“The arrest was made by a D7 team from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) around 8.30pm at Jalan Wan Abdul Rahman after receiving information.

“Also seized from them were various gambling equipment. Investigations revealed that the conflict originated from a misunderstanding when the suspects were engaged in a gambling session,” he said.

All of them tested negative for drugs and background checks found that three of the suspects had prior records linked to gambling offences.

Ahsmon stated that the case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, which carries imprisonment for a term up to a year, or a fine, or both.

He urged the public to cooperate and channel any information regarding the incident by contacting the Kuching police operations room at 082-244444 or the nearest police station.
