MIRI: Five Penan kindergartens in the interior of Baram, to be managed by Sedidik Sdn Bhd, have been completed.

Construction was funded by Petronas via its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and the Sarawak government to the tune of RM2.75mil.

This was disclosed by Sarawak Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Rosey Yunus on Tuesday (Feb 14) after visiting one of the kindergartens in Long Leng Baram.

“The five kindergartens are expected to be launched by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in July.

“The allocation is not only for the construction of the preschool but also the procurement of equipment and furniture, food supplies, allowances and insurance for teachers and students, training and other operational costs,” Rosey explained.

The five Penan kindergartens are located in Long Leng, Long Kawa, Long Kerangan, Long Jenalong and Balat Selulong.

With the completion of the kindergartens, Rosey expressed hope that this would create access to all Sarawakian children to early childhood education by 2030.
