SEBAUH: Four schools in this district have been closed due to floods since yesterday.

The four school are Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Balai, Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Kebulu, Sekolah Kebangsaan Sigu Binyo and Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Mawang.

For SK Bukit Balai the total number of students is 362 with 201 males and 161 females. Students from Year 1 to Year 5 have been directed to go to their own homes while Year 6 students still remain in the hostel.

Meanwhile, for SK Kuala Kebulu, students have returned to their homes since Friday with a total of 47 students comprising 26 males and 21 females.

According to the Commander of the Sarawak Region Five Marine Police ACP Sallehuddin Mat Zaman, the river water level at that time since August 13, 2017 was 5.5 metres.

The Marine Police Force have arrived at Tubau Town on August 13, 2017 at about 6:30 pm with the strength of four members.

On Aug 14, 2017, SK Kuala Sigu Binyo is still closed with the number of students in the school comprising 37 people, 15 males and 22 females with 27 boarders and 10 day students.

Sallehuddin said that in schools the water level had risen but had not yet reached the floor and the water level is still in safe condition.

Likewise, the same situation in SK Bukit Mawang with 46 students, 37 boarders students and nine day students with a total of 29 males and 17 females. Nevertheless, the school still continued their lessons as of yesterday with all students present at their classes.

For SK River Genaan, the classes comprising 41 students (20 males amd females) were not disrupted as the water was still below the bridge level and was under control.

Sallehuddin said the rising water level was due to incessant rains and most of the school area was near to the river.

He added that so far no further evacuation had been made; every resident is advised to be cautious of any possible occurrence if the rain continues.
