MUKAH: A foreign man was arrested for alleged involvement in a motorcycle theft case at Jalan Mukah-Selangau on Monday.

Mukah Police Chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said that the 47-year-old suspect was detained around 5 pm for inspections.

Before the arrest, the suspect had been riding a motorcycle without front and rear license plates near an oil palm processing factory.

“Checks revealed that the Honda EX5 motorcycle had been reported missing from in front of a premise in the town on Jan 14.

“The suspect also failed to produce a valid travel document, and he is being remanded for 14 days to facilitate investigations,” he said.

Rizal added that the case is under investigation under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which carries a sentence of up to seven years in prison and a fine upon conviction.

Furthermore, the suspect will be investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, punishable under Section 6(3) of the same Act, which includes a fine of up to RM10,000 or five years in prison or both, in addition to a possible six lashes of the cane.
