SIBU: Four areas here, namely Kawasan Igu, Tamin, Selangau; Batu 36, Jalan Oya, Tamin Selangau (Area A); Sibu-Bintulu Road, Stapang, Selangau; and Sekuau, Ulu Oya and Sungai Sebindang, Ulu oya have been gazetted as Bumiputera Communal Reserves (Agriculture) under Section 6 of the State Land Code.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan presented the gazettes to a total of 82 longhouses involved at a function held at Sibu Civic Centre here Yesterday.

According to Tengah, as of 31 July this year, the new initiative of the Native Customary Right (NCR) perimeter-survey programme has succeeded in achieving results in which 500 areas covering a total of 786,293 hectares have been measured while 409 areas (627,796 hectares) have been gazetted.

He said that the issuing of gazettes clearly demonstrates the government’s policy to always recognise NCR land belonging to the people

“This means the landowners should not be worried about their land being encroached. These gazettes are enough to prove ownership to the land and the boundaries of land belonging to them.

“After this, you are only one step ahead to have a land title under section 18 of the state land code. To obtain a land title, you need to go through the second stage of the individual lot measurement programme,” explained Tengah.

He said at the presentation of Bumiputera Communal Reserve (Agriculture) under Section 6 of the State Land Code and land compensation cheques.

Tengah, who is also Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, said perimeter-surveying work under new initiative has been implemented in 2010, in which it is a method that speeds up the government to do land surveying work.

He therefore called on the landowners to give cooperation to the Land and Survey Department in assisting in identifying the boundaries and being present during the measurement work.

“Cooperation and full support of the people are needed in the government’s plan to improve the quality of life of the people whether socially or economically,” he added.
