KUCHING: Five men were arrested by the police for alleged drug abuse at a commercial shoplot in Kota Padawan on Tuesday night.

The suspects, aged between 20 and 47, were picked up in a raid conducted by Padawan district’s Narcotic Crime Investigation Department.

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, who confirmed the arrest, said the raid was conducted based on intelligence and surveillance.

According to him, the suspects also told the police that the 5.2g of drugs, believed to be syabu crystals, found at the scene were for their own consumption.

“During questioning, all the suspects, who are locals, admitted they have been abusing drugs since 2018 and were involved in selling drugs,” he said in a press statement yesterday.

Aidil added that the drugs were found inside four straw tubes kept in a brown bag.

All suspects are currently detained at the Siburan police station.

The case will be investigated under Section 39A (1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
