KUCHING: Four youths were arrested yesterday for violating the movement control order (MCO).

The suspects, aged between 16 and 21, were arrested for loitering in an empty cottage at the foot of a hill of an Indian temple at Jalan Matang Tungku Yassin here yesterday at 9:25pm.

Padawan Police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said the arrests of the three women and a man were made after he received a tip-off from The People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) while patrolling the area.

“The suspects were aware of the MCO but failed to provide a reasonable excuse for being in the area,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Meanwhile, Aidil said that two motorcycles used by the youth were also seized.

He said the suspects were arrested under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Article 11 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.

“They were taken to 10th Mile police station for further action and released on police bail,” he said.
