Four nabbed for playing gin rummy

BAU: Police arrested four men caught gambling in a rented room at Redeems Centre, Jalan Singai during an operation dubbed ‘Ops Limau’ last Saturday.

The raid was carried out by a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team from Bau police station.

District police chief DSP Poge Nyaon who confirmed the arrests, said the men were arrested for playing ‘gin rummy’. Police also seized playing cards, cash, a table and four plastic chairs.

“Background checks found that all of them aged between 53 and 64, do not have any past records,” he said.

The men were remanded to facilitate investigations under the Section 7 (2) Common Gaming House Act 1953 which provides for a fine of not more than RM5,000 or imprisonment for a term not more than six months or both.

Separately, a 29-year-old man, suspected to be conducting online gambling top-up activity, was arrested in an ‘Ops Dadu’ raid. The suspect was nabbed on a premises at Borneo Jambusan.

Police also seized cash amounting to RM500, a phone, a closed-circuit television (CCTV) decoder, a CCTV monitor, 27 USB cables, among other things. The suspect was also remanded to facilitate investigations under the Common Gaming House Act 1953.
