Four-year-old boy rescued from locked car in Sibu

SIBU: The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) came to the rescue of a four-year-old boy who was trapped inside his family car at a warehouse in Jalan Ulu Lalang, here yesterday.

A spokesman said they received a distress call from the boy’s parents around 5.15 pm.

Firemen from Sibu station were promptly despatched to the scene and they had to use a special tool to open the car door to free the child.

It took them several minutes to finally open the door and rescue the child. The boy was then handed over to his relieved parents around 5.40 pm.

Leaving a child unattended in a car is dangerous and can be fatal, especially during hot weather. It is an offence under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Children Act 2001 and if found guilty, parents are liable to be prosecuted and can face a maximum fine of RM50,000 or a jail term of up to 20 years.
