LONG LAMA, MIRI: Huge crowds are expected to come for the second edition of the “Gawai/Raya Aidilfitri” open house at SJK Kee Tee Hall here on June 28.

According to Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau, Long Lama would be the centre for public gathering following the completion of the Long Lama Bridge linking the district to Apoh and Tutoh areas and to Marudi and Miri.

For the record, the Long Lama Bridge was completed last April.

“It is expected that 2,000 people from Long Lama and residents from nearby longhouses will be present,” Dennis said on Saturday after he chaired a meeting at the Telang Usan District Office with the event’s working committee members.

Various activities have been lined-up including traditional performances and singing by popular Iban and local singers.

Dennis said he was confident of a big turn out with the opening of the Long Lama Bridge.

“Prior to the bridge’s completion, the people in Long Lama depended on ferry services which restricted their movements as services closed at 9pm. Now after the bridge is completed, the people can move freely,” he said.
