KUCHING: An air rifle that had been abandoned in a bush in Telok Melano, Lundu, was seized by the General Operations Force (GOF) last Saturday.
 
Brigade commander SAC Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang in a statement said a team from the 11th Battalion was was patrolling around the border when they discovered the weapon.
 
“The rifle was found unattended in a bush near the A57 border stone.
 
“After an hour of waiting and inspecting the surroundings, the team found that no one appeared to claim the weapon,” he said.
 
The rifle worth RM800, was seized and handed over to Lundu police for further action.
 
On another note, Che Ghazali disclosed that from May 30 to June 5, a total of 21 illegal immigrants were deported back to their home country in an operation codenamed ‘Op Batas’.
 
In three separate cases, the immigrants, consisting of 17 men, four women and a child aged 10 to 63, attempted to enter the state via illegal routes.
 
From January 1 to date, the brigade has recorded success worth RM1.1 million with a total of 104 cases in ‘Op Batas’.
 
He said the success involved the arrests of 370 individuals – 24 locals and 346 illegals including 301 illegals that have been deported back to their home countries.

A total of 21 illegal immigrants being caught trying to enter Sarawak illegally.
