REGULAR FLIGHT SCHEDULES FROM SEPT 1

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak’s tourism industry is set to get back on track following the reinstatement of regular flight schedules beginning Sept 1.

Sarawak Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the increase in the number of flights from West Malaysia, Sabah and Labuan was expected to reinvigorate local tourism.

“We had expected that there would be a reduced amount of tourists coming into the state following the closure of the state’s borders and the reduction of flights.

“Once the flights are back to normal, I believe that most tourists from West Malaysia, including foreigners who are working in Kuala Lumpur who are afraid of travelling overseas, would still want to travel here.”

Abdul Karim was speaking to the press after officiating the Samarahan District Merdeka@Komuniti programme organised by Sarawak Information Department at Kota Samarahan Civic Centre here yesterday.

He hoped that travellers would make their way into the state as a result of the various offers and discounts on offer.

He also assured that travellers, whether Malaysians or foreigners from West Malaysia, Sabah and Labuan, need not undergo compulsory quarantine pertaining to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“However, we will still conduct random swab test. Two or three persons will be selected if we feel the need to do so.

“For those coming from abroad, they will have to undergo compulsory 14-day quarantine whether in Kuala Lumpur or Sarawak.”
