MIRI: The state government encourages the active involvement of youths in various meaningful activities, including sports, Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department Datuk John Sikie Tayai said.

He cited SABERKAS as an important platform for youths to get themselves involved in beneficial activities and stay away from undesirable elements.

“Take today (Sunday) for example. We have participants from various divisions like Miri and Bintulu in this sepak takraw competition,” he said during the Piala Kakus SABERKAS Sepak Takraw Competition organised as part of the SABERKAS Sports Carnival 2021 (KASUS) at the multipurpose hall of Pusat Islam Daerah Tatau on Sunday (Feb 6).

He was represented by Tatau District Officer Jabang Juntan at the event.

Sikie said there would also be a Tatau Festival and various sports events, including takraw and badminton competitions for the youths, would be held this year.

“In addition, youths should also be wise to use social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook and ICT as one of the ways to improve their socio-economic level,” he said.
