Government to develop a new village

GEDONG: A new village will be developed near Kampung Ensengai Melayu here.

Funds for the project has been approved and the work on it is expected to start soon, said Premier Datuk Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Lots at the new settlement will be opened to residents from all villages around Gedong,” he said after attending the breaking of fast ceremony with villagers at Nurul Huda Mosque, Kampung Ensengai Melayu here on last Saturday.

“The state government will bear all the cost to develop the new village and provide the infrastructure and basic necessities such as roads, water and electricity supply,” he added.

Abang Johari, who is also Gedong assemblyman said each lot was expected to cost RM120,000 and the government would absorbed all cost incurred to help reduce the burden of the people who would live in the area.

“In addition, a road will also be developed from Kampung Kampung Ensengai Melayu to Kampung Lubok Punggor and right up to Kota Samarahan which will shorten travel time (from here to Kota Samarahan) to only 40 minutes.

“This will then give a positive impact on the community in Gedong as the distance is closer to Kuching,” he said.

On another note, he said Sarawak government would collaborate with Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus (Swinburne Sarawak) to set up an agricultural laboratory here.

“The lab aims to conduct research to identify new farming methods, including the use of the latest technology,” he added.

This would benefit local farmers in increasing the production of agricultural products such as paddy and rice.

Earlier, some 250 people including the villagers of Kampung Ensengai Melayu and its surrounding area attended the braking of fast at tjhe surau..

The ceremony began with a Ramadan lecture, followed by the breaking of fast and performing of the ‘Maghrib’, ‘Isyak’ and ‘Terawih’ prayers.

Also present were the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development I (Infrastructure Development) and Sadong Jaya assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo, Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris, Deputy State Secretary Datuk Seri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Land and Survey Department director Datuk Abdullah Julaihi, and Special Duty Representative to Abang Johari, Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais.
