KANOWIT: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Flag Rally convoy was welcomed with a lion dance performance upon arrival at the waterfront here yesterday.

The convoy boarded an express boat from Sibu at 9am to this town. It took the convoy about one and a half hours to arrive.

The event then continued with a traditional Iban “miring” ceremony to appease the spirits and to welcome important guests.

After that, the function continued with the main event which was to promote GPS and the handing over of GPS flags to GPS Kanowit zone.

The convoy then left for Kapit by boarding an express boat at 1pm.

Upon arrival in Kapit at 3pm yesterday the convoy was welcomed by members of Kelab Gagung Sarawak dressed in traditional Iban warrior’s costume. The convoy was also by the Malay community with prayers.

Later in the evening, the flag rally was held at Rumah Edisom Bugap at Jalan Melekun, Baleh.

Yesterday was the fifth day of the flag rally convoy.

Today the convoy will stop at Sarikei in the morning and is expected to arrive at Betong in the evening.
