KUCHING: Santubong Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jafaar has reminded Sarawakians that they should remember and learn from their bad experience with the federal government.

He should know because he used to be federal Natural Resources and Environment Minister.

He said although there are several ministers with experience in the federal Cabinet currently, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government is struggling to stay relevant.

“Compare them to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) whose leaders are almost all experienced and knowledgeable and it becomes obvious which should be the choice of Sarawakians come the next state election in 2021,” he said.

“Given another mandate in 2021, GPS will be able to continue to implement its impressive development agenda. The PH and PSB would not be able to do as well. Therefore, I say we should not experiment with the administration of the state.”

Wan Junaidi said Sarawak needs continuity of vision, skills and experience to push through over the next two or three terms to see the results of what the present government has done, is doing and will do.

Wan Junaidi was asked to comment on whether the state election in 2021 or earlier would affect GPS’ majority or if he thought there would a change of government.

He said Sarawak is so well managed that people don’t see any need for a change in government.

“Look at the auditor general reports either for the whole state or for individual ministries. Sarawak is in fine hands and it would be wrong and a great mistake to get rid of a government that has performed well,” he said.

Asked for his comment on Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Datuk Sri Dr Wong Soon Koh’s statement that PSB has a candidate to challenge Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing in the coming state election, Wan Junaidi said Masing is entrenched enough in his constituency and respected by many.

“PSB can try, but I strongly believe that Masing and PRS will prevail,” he said.

On Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Wan Junaidi said the Chinese-based party should now consolidate itself.

“There are no more problem areas. Choose the candidates properly, focus on winning and work hard to convince the Chinese that SUPP is the better choice for them rather than some Malaya-based party or Sarawak-based opposition parties,” he said.

“The leaders should show more initiative and creativity in reaching the hearts and minds of the people.”
