Grab opportunities to study at state owned varsities

MIRI: Parents are told to encourage their children to consider pursuing their higher education after completing their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM ) at Sarawak owned universities.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour , Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala said they should grab the opportunities of the free education offered by the State government.

Gerawat disclosed this during Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) St Columba Miri excellent awards ceremony, here on Wednesday.

His text of speech was read by Highland Development Agency (HDA) public relations officer Datuk Robert Laing Anyi.

A total of 116 primary six pupils of SK St Columba Miri were awarded during the ceremony.

On another note, Gerawat has also emphasised the importance of learning and mastering the English language.

“It is crucial for us to nurture the language among children from an early age, because having the English language proficiency will enable these children to stay ahead,” he pointed out.

At the event today, Gerawat announced an allocation amounting at RM10,000 to the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
