KUCHING : Graduates of Kuching Skill College and Miri Technical College have been reminded to be strong mentally and be more brave in pursuing job or business opportunities to ensure that they are not left behind.

In giving the advice, Prof. Datuk Dr. Spencer Empading Sanggin, a senior lecturer from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), added that they must be equipped with the relevant knowledge.

“Graduates must be equipped to face the challenges before going into the working world because the working world is becoming more complicated. There is no denying the importance of skills.

“For those who will be working, be equipped mentally and physically to face the different challenges and when facing bitter situtations, work hard and use the expertises gained based on the needs faced,” he said.

Spencer was delivering his speech before officiating at Kuching Skills College and Miri Technical College’s first joint graduation ceremony at the Pullman Hotel here yesterday (Feb 23)

In his speech, he said the success of a skills college in producing excellent graduates was in line with the efforts to increase the skilled labour resources required by the related industries in the future.

“Kuching Skill College and Miri Technical College have the potential to develop and help the youth, especially in Sarawak and also in Sabah.

“I am sure one day you (graduates) will be your own bosse,” he added.

He also said that the graduation was only the beginning for graduates and that it was the start of life in the working world.

One hundred and seventy-four graduates took part in the joint convocation ceremony of Kuching Skills College and Miri Technical College.

Also present were the chief executive officer Kuching Skills College and Miri Technical College Novert Sullang Douglas and Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman, Datuk Peter Minos and Datin Amar Rosalind Ningkan.
