KUCHING: A 20-year-old grave digger was handed a fine for having the identity card and ATM card of a senior citizen which were reported stolen earlier.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali fined the young offender RM500 after his social report was tendered in court today (March 20).

She ordered him imprisoned for ten days if he fails to pay the fine.

He was caught with the stolen items at a cemetery in Semariang, Jalan Sultan Tengah, at about 5 pm on Dec 17, 2022.

The court had earlier heard that the 60-year-old woman found her handbag missing from the car after she visited her father’s grave at about 3.10 pm on Dec 16.

She reported her identification card, driver’s licence, a vaccination card, two ATM cards, and cash amounting to RM300 stolen.

A police patrol team arrested the youth at the vicinity the next day.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad.
