KUCHING: Sarawak has been identified as a leading destination for green hydrogen production, according to meetings at the Baker Hughes Energy Conference in Florence, Italy, from Jan 28 to 31.

Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr. Hazland Abang Hipni said that Sarawak’s rich natural resources, cost-effective and clean hydropower, strategic positioning, and strong governmental support position it as a prime choice for green hydrogen production in the region.

“Baker Hughes presented their latest advancements in hydrogen production technology and instrumentation,” he noted, emphasising the unveiling of a new Hydrogen Testing Facility designed to validate industrial turbines’ capability to operate on up to 100 per cent hydrogen.

Dr. Hazland further mentioned Baker Hughes’ recent accomplishments, including the completion of hydrogen turbines for a Net-Zero Hydrogen Energy Complex in Edmonton, Canada.

“The company also made huge progress on a major hydrogen project by delivering the first two trains of advanced hydrogen compression solutions for the NEOM project in Saudi Arabia, which is the world’s largest green hydrogen project,” he added.
