Hadrah players enter records book

KUCHING: Yesterday 1,001 hadrah players at a Temasya Warisan Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKSHE) 2019 ceremony at Padang Merdeka successfully entered the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for the ‘Highest Number of Hadrah Players’.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg witnessed the presentation of a certificate for the achievement from MBOR manager, Lee Pooi Leng, to Persatuan Kesenian dan Warisan Melayu Kuching (Kewarisma) chairman Abdul Yakup Norshen.

The same event also witnessed the gathering of 1,000 silat exponents from 16 silat associations and groups. It was the largest such gathering since the last one held in 2009 which involved 500 exponents.

The event from Oct 6 to 26 organised by Kewarisma in collaboration with OKSHE featured 22 programmes related to heritage and arts.

Perguruan Nilam Sari emerged as the champion of the Silat Keris Seri Naga Kilat and the Chief Minister’s Cup Competition held from Oct 18 to 20.

Among those present at the event were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan; State Legislative Assembly (DUN) speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office for Islamic Affairs and Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Assistant Minister Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais; and Deputy State Secretary Datuk Dr Sabariah Putit.
