Health minister says Lawas Hospital ready on Dec 11 next year

KUCHING: The construction of the new Lawas Hospital is expected to be completed on Dec 11 next year.

Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the hospital, which is estimated to be equipped with 76 beds, has achieved a work progress of 25.21 per cent as of Jan 31.

“The project is under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) and costs RM228.17 million,” he said in response to a question by Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong during question time in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 8).

She added the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Public Works Department (PWD) are constantly monitoring the implementation of the project to ensure that it runs smoothly and is completed according to schedule, cost and standards.

At the same time, the Sekijang MP said that basic specialist services will also be provided by the hospital in the future.

“MoH has plans to provide basic specialist services in stages according to the availability of resources and facilities that will be completed in this hospital namely, general medical services, general surgery, emergency, paediatrics, obstetrics, and gynaecology,” she added.
