KUCHING: Malaysia is counting on the gold winner of Asian Junior Bowling Championship in Manila last month, Tun Ameerul Luqman Al-Hakim to top the 18th Asian School Bowling Tenpin Championship (ASTBC) held at Megalanes, Batu Kawa E-mart which started on Sunday.

A total of 16 experienced players in the bowling world were representing the country squad is classified in Group A and B. Tun Ameerul will lead the team comprising Muhammad Hazim Alihanafiah, Ahmad Azriq Izamudin, Muhammad Arif Iskandar Azahar, Najwa Nazirah Mohd Amir, Puteri Nurul Dini Mohd Fauzi and two Sarawak Sukma athletes, Nur Aina Kamalia and Gillian Lim who are competing in Group A.

Group B features Sarawak’s Sukma future athletes, Asya Dania Azree, Dayang Yumi Azreen Abang Azman, Nur Hazidah Ramli, Nur Nazirah Ramli, Morgan Chang, Tsen Fan Yew, Mohd Nur Syafiq Mohd Amran and Abang Afiq Yazid Abang Azman. About 200 participants involving 23 teams from 10 countries are taking part in the six-day tournament.

The host are vying to win the title against the best youth players from India, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, the Philippines, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. This is Sarawak’s second time to host the world-class tenpin bowling tournament after the Sarawak Open Tenpin Bowling 2017 Championship which was held here on last September.
