SIBU: Residents in the Kemuyang housing development area will enjoy comprehensive sports facilities.

Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said among the facilities being developed are a hockey field, a football field, and a multipurpose hall that can be used for both sepak takraw and basketball.

“The most important facility is the construction of the hockey field, which is the first hockey field in the central zone of Sarawak. Until now, there are only two hockey fields in Kuching, but nowhere else in Sarawak,” he told reporters after officiating at the pre-launch of a new football field in Kemuyanghere, last night (Feb 25).

Asked on the current stage of the hockey field, the Nangka assemblyman said that it is going through a the tender process.

On the football field, Dr Annuar said it is the second football field in the Nangka constituency equipped with ample lighting.

“This field uses real grass compared to the synthetic field in Permai. I will also strive to add two more football fields like this in the Nangka constituency.

“I had identified the locations, but I am still negotiating to acquire the land so that it can be developed into a football field that can be used at night,” he said.
