SERIAN: The construction of the long-awaited new hall of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tarat has finally commenced yesterday.
Tarat assemblyman Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the project, which is funded under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP), was approved two years ago.
He expressed optimism that the project could be completed within six months, emphasising the importance of diligence and adherence to timelines by the appointed contractor.
“I hope the project will be completed ahead of schedule, as it largely depends on the contractor’s efficiency.
“The contractor has been allocated six months by the Public Works Department (PWD), which I believe is a reasonable timeframe.
“With diligent work and no unforeseen issues, there’s a possibility they may even finish earlier than expected,” he said when speaking at the ceremony to witness the handing over of the project at SMK Tarat.
Shifting focus, Sagah, who serves as the Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Minister, urged the school’s administration and staff to align its mission with the state government’s policies and initiatives.
Under the Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, he stressed that a primary objective has been set to bolster technical expertise within various industries.
“This is because many projects now rely heavily on technology. The more skilled people we have, the better.
“SMK Tarat is encouraged to excel in all areas, producing competent individuals in technical fields,” he added.
Looking forward, Sagah is also advocating for greater usage of English language instruction within the school curriculum.
He encouraged educators to engage students to communicate in English more frequently to enhance proficiency and ensure readiness for the demands of a globalised world.
“For us to really develop even further, English is important,” he stressed.
