LUNDU: Integrity needs to be inculcated and strengthened among civil servants working at Sarawak’s borders.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya said border control operations needed civil servants who have high integrity.

“This is because when working at the borders, many activities will occur such as corruption, abuse of power, human trafficking, drug smuggling, illegal agricultural products brought in, and many more.

“Therefore, the Enhancing Integrity Project (EIP) organised by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA) in collaboration with the State Integrity and Ombudsman Unit (UNIONS) is a an effort by the Sarawak government in developing a state with high integrity by 2030.”

Juanda said this during the closing ceremony of the EIP programme at Dewan Kampung Pasir Hulu here last Saturday (July 16).

The Jemoreng assemblyman expressed his hope that the said programme would create awareness and foster a culture of integrity among locals while also strengthening integrity in civil servants.
